About the Thomas a Becket
The Thomas a' Becket is managed by Ryan & Heather Mayo, they have a great team of staff that are fun, hard working and always have our customers interests at heart.
The name Thomas a' Becket is taken from Saint Thomas Becket
(c. 1118—1170ad)
"Thomas Becket" was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 to 1170, and has close ties to Tarring Village in Worthing less than 1/2 mile away from the pub.
He is venerated as a saint and martyr by both the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglican Church. He engaged in a conflict with King Henry II over the rights and privileges of the Church and was assassinated by followers of the king in Canterbury Cathedral. He is also commonly known as Thomas à Becket, hence our pubs name. we are commonly know among many of our locals as just "The Becket".

Fullers aquired the pub when they bought the George Gales brewery in November 2005. We currently still show our signage as being owned by George Gales, but this is due to be changed shortly by the brewery Fullers, Smith & Turner. but don't dismay the brewery will continue to produce Gales HSB ale.
